Foundation of SATNU
SATNU, Scandinavian Association of Thoracic Nurses, was established in 2008 and board members were elected, one from each of the Scandinavian countries, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Iceland. SATNU is a cross border organisation for the Scandinavian countries working across the specialities within the cardiothoracic field. It means that SATNU is for all nurses involved with cardiothoracic patients/clients and working in theatres, intensive-care units, postoperative wards, out-patient clinics and rehabilitation units and for retired nurses taking an interest in this speciality.

The Mission of SATNU
SATNU takes part in holding the Scandinavian Congress for cardiothoracic surgeons, perfusionists and now also the nurses.
SATNU took part in planning and holding the First Joint Scandinavian Conference in Cardiothoracic Surgery in Stockholm, Sweden in August 2009. This congress was a tremendous success with 300 nurses attending, which was half of the 600 congress participants.
At the moment SATNU is taking part in planning the next congress which will be held in Oslo, Norway, on the 26th - 28th of August 2010.
In addition to the board, SATNU comprises a Science Committee with representation from nurses with advanced education from Finland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
The purpose of the committee is to read the abstracts sent in for presentation on the nursing day at the congress and select some of them for presentation.
